Bed and Breakfast

A B & B is usually a private accommodation, where you will get a bed and breakfast.
Normally there are not more than 6 guests at a time. Some B&Bs are also offering dinner.
Bunkhouse
Camping & Caravan
There are several sorts of parks put together under the description "camping and caravan"
- Holiday parks
here you will find holidayhomes and chalets, usually privately owned, but can also be let out. Very often you have pits for mobilehomes, tour caravans and tents. - Touring park
for touring caravans and mobilehomes, but also tents possible - Camping park
for tents only - Caravan holiday homes
caravans, chalets and touring caravans which are let out by private owners
Ensuite
Ensuite means that a room has its own, private bathroom which is only accessible through the room itself.
You will find this very often in the description of B&Bs or Guesthouses.
Holiday Cottage
A holiday cottage can be a traditional cottage as well as a modern house, bungalow or townhouse.
Usually they are fully equipped. Towels and bedlinnen are either included in the price or available on request (you might pay an extra fee for that service).
Farmhouse
Full Breakfast
Most of the B&Bs, Guesthouses or other accommodation offering breakfast have a "full breakfast" on their menue.

Such a "full breakfast" is very substantial and usually has the following ingredients:
fresh juice (orange, grapefruit)
Milk
Cereals (cornflakes, muesli etc.)
While one is enjoying the cereals the landlady is busy in the kitching, cooking you a full breakfast. Depending on the region you are at, the variety could be different:
Bacon / Rashers
Sausages
Lorne Sausage
Black Pudding
Fried Mushrooms
Grilled Tomatoe
French Bread
Potatoe Scones
White Pudding
Fried Egg / Scrambled Egg
Sometimes you will also get porridge, fresh fruit as well as toast, butter, marmalade.
And - of course - tea or coffee.
A full breakfast is also called
* cooked breakfast
* scottish breakfast
* full fry
* traditional breakfast
* warm breakfast
Guesthouse
A guesthouse usually has at least 4 rooms to let, mostly ensuite.
You will get breakfast, but sometimes also lunch and dinner is available.
A guesthouse is run as a business whereas a B&B is a private accommodation in a private house.
Hostel
Star rated accommodation often in shared rooms with bunk beds, family rooms may also be available.
Hostels normally welcome individuals, families and groups, many of whom are on a staying on a short-term basis.
Hostels often have a quite formalised structure, which may or may not include restricted access, meal service etc.
Hotel
A hotel has at least 20 rooms to let, usually ensuite. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available. The hotel bar can be licensed or fully licensed.
You will find hotels of the following categories
- Small Hotel
Smaller hotels personally run by the proprietor with a maximum of 20 bedrooms. Likely to have limited function business. - Country House Hotel
A country house hotel with ample grounds or gardens, in a rural or semi-rural situation with an emphasis on peace and quiet.
Inn
An Inn is usally a hughe traditional pub offering accommodation.
Meals are served in the restaurant which is open to the public. You will also find the possibility of getting dinner and lunch as well as visiting the public bar.
Selfcatering

There is a variety of selfcatering accommodation in Scotland, most of them holiday cottages. But you will also find apartments, holiday flats, chalets or lodges etc.
Usually the are offered on a weekly base, but depending on the season there might be also special offers for weekend or mid-week brakes. Bedlinnen and towels can be included in the price, but it could also be that you have to pay extra for this service.
When looking at the prices, please keep in mind that you will also have to pay for a deposit. However, you will get this back if you leave the property in a good condition.
