The Highlands
Mention the Highlands to most tourists and they'll imagine tumbling rivers and high mountains.
This is only a small part of what the Highland Region has to offer. There is the capital of the Region Inverness, a beautiful city that would make an excellent starting point for your highland tour. There is the east coast with its openness to the North sea where there are cliff faces with crashing waves at their base. There are castles or sandy bays to explore, or visit the Scottish fishing towns and watch the fleets returning with their varied catches.
Scotland is catching up with the world (albeit slowly)and tourists can enjoy the camping/caravan sites all over the Region as well as the older established B&B s or hotels. There are such stunning places with a history so deep that names like Glen Coe stir the blood.
To the West we have the "Road to the Isles" and all that that entails. Here the air is different being straight off the Atlantic and views are unsurpassed. Every need is catered for from gentle rambles in the hills to Downhill Mountain biking and mountaineering. One of the surprising things for our foreign visitors is the fact that not all Scotsmen wear their kilts every day.....but there are plenty of events where kilts are worn.
